September 2024 Financial independence update - First million

Observation:

This month my investments crossed 1 million USD evaluation.  One million is a round number. It is not what it used to be, when “millionaire” went main stream in 1980s.

In 2008 my goal was $2,000 K USD, this is about $2,500 K USD in today's money.  At the time I thought I will reach it by 2026.  If I back calculate my today's net worth in 2008 money I have $605 K US only. This is how my past 16 years financial independence ramblings look like:

My net worth growth  picked up from 2017 purely by a chance – I was discriminated by my Dutch bank. This led to halt of individual stock investments and trades.  At the time I had to pull all my money and I invested them into the four low cost mutual funds and top S&P500  in 2022.

I can also argue that I am a little bit closer to my original $2,000 K USD goal, as it included need to rent.   I am half way through my mortgage now.  After the mortgage is paid I need about $1,200K in 2008 money (~$1,500K USD in today’s money). At 3% real term growth I will be at my target in 15 years without additional investments. This is off target by 13 years (2039 actual vs 2026 forecasted).
